When Your Heart Feels Everything
Kia ora friend,
One moment you're bursting with creative ideas. The next, your mind is racing about something that hasn’t even happened yet.
If this feels familiar, you may be experiencing a classic Vata imbalance.
In Ayurveda, Vata dosha is made up of air and space—light, mobile, and ever-changing. These same qualities that give you creativity and intuition also make your emotions move quickly, like wind.
Why Vata Feels Emotions So Strongly
Vata governs the nervous system. It is naturally sensitive, responsive, and quick.
This means:
- You feel things deeply
- Your thoughts move fast
- Your emotions shift quickly
There’s also a physical connection. The colon—Vata’s primary seat in the body—is closely linked to your emotional state. When Vata is aggravated, it can trigger feelings of:
- Anxiety
- Fear
- Restlessness
- Overwhelm
Your system is simply more alert and responsive than most.
The Gift Behind the Sensitivity
Here’s the part many people don’t realise:
Your emotional sensitivity is not a weakness.
It’s what allows you to:
- Be deeply creative
- Feel empathy for others
- Experience life with richness and depth
And unlike heavier doshas, Vata moves through emotions quickly.
That anxious wave? It rises fast—but it also passes fast.
How to Calm Vata and Feel More Grounded
Balance for Vata isn’t about suppressing emotions—it’s about creating stability in a moving system.
Here are simple Ayurvedic practices that gently bring you back to centre:
1. Warm Oil Massage (Abhyanga)
Applying warm oil to the body helps “contain” scattered energy.
It gives your nervous system a sense of safety and grounding.
2. Consistent Daily Rhythm
Going to bed and waking at the same time daily stabilises your internal clock.
Routine is medicine for Vata.
3. Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose
Just 10 minutes can calm the nervous system and reduce that “floaty,” ungrounded feeling.
4. Warm, Nourishing Foods
Think soups, stews, and cooked meals.
Warmth and heaviness help anchor Vata’s lightness.
A Gentle Reminder
You’re not too much.
You’re not overly sensitive.
You’re simply tuned into life in a way that many aren’t.
When supported, that sensitivity becomes your greatest strength.
